Worship Ministry Update: May 27

2009 Vision: Serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness

Our focus group had a great meeting last Wednesday.  (Jennifer made some great brownies and some other goodies, but I digress...)  We discussed how each person in the focus group would like to be involved.  Some would like to organize and plan, some would like to make contacts, some would like to just show up to the event and be a roadie (that's me, by the way), some would like to write original songs and arrange existing songs, and others would like to play instruments and sing.  I'm excited to see where all of this goes.  We'll be meeting again next month, so please contact any of us with any ideas you may have, and be praying about how God will specifically use you.

We also discussed a few important technical points:

        1) Remember reason we are doing this: to reach the unchurched for Jesus.  The basic idea is quite simple: we play some quality music in the community, and then invite them to a worship service at FCCN.  We'll also do some random acts of kindness, like raking people's yards, or going door to door and giving a free watermelon to people on a hot summer day.  Remember that everything we will do is for free, we won't ask anything in return: we'll just invite them to FCCN on Sunday.  The possibilities are limitless.

        2) Elisa Morrison mentioned it would be a good idea to pace ourselves: we'll begin slowly in 2009.  We won't be doing a different outreach every week.  To avoid burning out everyone, we'll walk before we run. :)

        3) David Mitchell brought up a good point as well: because we are trying to invite the unchurched to FCCN, we will limit our outreaches to the Southwestern Indiana community.  It would be fun to go and do something in Kansas City or somewhere else, but the chances of anyone actually coming to FCCN as a result a far away outreach is highly unlikely.  So we'll try to touch there heart here, invite them to FCCN, and they might just bow their knees to Jesus one day.

Praise Team Schedules for the 3rd Quarter

For those of you on the praise team: your schedules are due to me on Tuesday, June 10.  Just let me know which Sundays you would be unable to serve on the praise team for the months of July, August and September.

 Praise Team Practice: Avion Training

During the next 3 praise team practices, Guy Hall and the media team will be training the instrumentalists on our Avion monitor system.  There are some more interesting tricks that they would like to share with you.  While they are working with the band, I'll be working with the vocal team on blend and worship leading.  This should take about 15 minutes of the practice, but we'll still only practice from 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Value of the Month: Relational Evangelism

As we wrap up the value for this month, remember that the idea of building a relationship with someone first is the entire idea behind the "circle of evangelism" cards every Sunday.  We ask you to write the name of someone who needs a relationship with Jesus on that card.  Then we as a staff divide the cards up and pray for you to have a chance to speak with them this week about Jesus.  I currently have 4 of them on my desk from last Sunday.  So remember to build a relationship with them first, and we will be praying for a divine opportunity for you to tell them what Jesus has done for you.

    God bless,

Worship Ministry Update: May 19

2009 Vision: Serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness

Our focus group will be meeting this Wednesday night!  We'll be dreaming about how we can make this vision a reality through God's power.  Please let us know if you have any creative ideas.  You can contact Louis Rose, David Mitchell, Jason & Suzanne Chambliss, Elisa Morrison, Janice Howard, Beth Schoenbachler, Karen Hinman, Jake Moyes or Steve Mohler with any ideas.

Praise Team Practice: Avion Training

During the next 4 praise team practices, Guy Hall and the media team will be training the instrumentalists on our Avion monitor system.  There are some more interesting tricks that they would like to share with you.  While they are working with the band, I'll be working with the vocal team on blend and worship leading.  This should take about 15 minutes of the practice, but we'll still only practice from 6:00-8:00 P.M.

New Office

Yes!  The dream has come true!  I now have an office with windows. :)  I can look out right now while I'm typing this and see the pond, the sky, and the glorious sunshine.  Come by the FCCN campus sometime this week and I'll show it to you.  I wake up every morning and say, "Praise the Lord!  Not only did He give me a relationship with His son Jesus, but he lets me see the sun 40 hours a week." :)

Value of the Month: Relational Evangelism

Since my current glasses are over three years old, I took an eye exam last Friday.  I had a great time talking with the eye doctor, and we really connected.  He mentioned that he lived in Newburgh, and he asked me a few questions about FCCN.  It wasn't till the the end of the exam when I thought, "wake up dummy!  This guy might be interested in a relationship with Jesus!"  Then I finally got the nerve to invite him to FCCN.  He was genuinely interested, but he might not have been if I had not spent some time getting to know him!  I'm praying that I see him here at FCCN in the next few weeks.

Remember, like we learned last week, the best way to win someone to Christ is to be their friend first.  Build the relationship, let them know that you care about them.  Then they will start to ask questions about your life, and it's your chance to tell them what Jesus has done for you.  Then invite them to a worship service here or some Christian event.  It begins with the personal relationship.

    God bless you all,

Worship Ministry Update: May 12

2009 Vision: Serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness

Our focus group will be meeting on Wednesday night, May 21.  If you have any ideas that you would like to share, please talk to me before that date.  We want to hear as many thoughts as possible!

Some are asking me, "Who is in the focus group?"  It's everyone who volunteered when I sent out the initial plea (you may remember that I asked for volunteers back in March).  Louis Rose, David Mitchell, Jason & Suzanne Chambliss, Elisa Morrison, Janice Howard, Beth Schoenbachler, Karen Hinman, Jake Moyes and Steve Mohler have all graciously volunteered.  Please contact any of us if you have some ideas to make God's vision a reality.

Praise Team Practice is on Wednesday this week (May 14)

Since the Noah's Ark Preschool Graduation is on Tuesday, the praise team and media team will practice on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Shout out to the praise team & media team last Sunday!

I sure did enjoy serving with you all Sunday (May 11).  I thought the vocal team did a great job, and Bill did a great job on the special song, "I Saw God Today."  The band did a great job of playing multiple styles of music, including new country and 60's rock.  The media team did a spectacular job with the videos, lighting effects changes and a clear sounding mix.  God bless all of you!  Last Sunday was a great snapshot of excellence: doing the best we can with what we have.  You all are a blessing to me!

Remember, the best way to win someone to Christ is to be their friend first.  Build the relationship, let them know that you care about them.  Then they will start to ask questions about your life, and it's your chance to tell them what Jesus has done for you.  Then invite them to a worship service here or some Christian event.  I have found from experience that this process can take years.

I'm sitting here thinking, why is this so hard?  I'll admit that it's a struggle for me sometimes to just walk across the street and talk to my neighbors.  I can give numerous excuses, like "I'm an introvert" or "it's 2008 and we don't hang out with our neighbors anymore."  But it's those moments when the command of Christ rings in my ears: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations..." It starts by walking across the street, across to the other cubicle, or just across the room.

Worship Ministry Update: Cinco de Mayo!

2009 Vision: Serving the community through  the arts and acts of kindness

Our focus group will be meeting on Wednesday night, May 21.  If you have any ideas that you would like to share, please talk to me before that date.  We want to hear as many thoughts as possible!

Major moves this week! (7:30 P.M. on Wednesday night, May 7, 1:00 P.M. on Saturday Afternoon, May 10)

Since there is a wedding on Saturday in the worship center, we'll be moving everything off the stage after the Wednesday night service (the service starts at 6:30 P.M. and ends around 7:30.)  We could use anyone's muscles who would like to help.

Then we will be moving everything back onto the stage at 1:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon.

Media Road Trip: This Saturday, May 10, at Noon! (meet at the FCCN campus)

The media team is going to Northside Christian Church on Saturday!  This is a great church in New Albany, IN that does many quality things with media.  If anyone would like to join them for this trip, please contact Guy Hall: ghall@fccn.org.  They will attend the Saturday evening service, grab a bite to eat and be back at FCCN around 8 P.M.  I would love to go, but I'm playing piano for a wedding that afternoon. :)

Value of the Month: Relational Evangelism

I'll be honest with you, I have found that the best way to evangelize is through friendship.  Build a solid friendship first, and then they will start asking questions.  I have NEVER been able to convert anyone to Jesus by simply walking up to a stranger and asking them if they know Jesus.  Talk about making someone uncomfortable!  Yikes!

But when they realize that you are genuinely interested in them, you start to act just the way Jesus did.  You can love them like Jesus.  When they start asking questions, it's your chance to tell them what Jesus has done for you.  Once you have built the relationship, then you can start inviting them to church or some other Christian event.  But it must start with the relationship.  I look forward to talking with you more about this in the future!

God bless you all!  Don't forget Mother's day on Sunday! :)
