2009 Vision: Serving the Community Through the Arts and Acts of Kindness
Yes, we should definitely perform for the Fall Festival! I've heard many of you suggest that this week, so we'll do our best to make it happen in 2009. What do you think, does that sound like a good venue for "God is in the House?" :)
Choir & Orchestra
Thanks for working hard and pulling things together! You all are learning a massive amount of music at a quick pace: I am so proud of you. Keep listening to that CD.
This Sunday night we'll be working on "Sing Noel" & "One King." Since those song will take a little longer to plunk the notes, we'll spend 40 minutes in sectionals this time. (Shout out the equippers! You all rock!) We'll again do prayer groups first, then break into sectionals, then have the full group together for the remainder of the rehearsal. I'll also have the worship songs ready for you when we lead worship on November 2. I'll be working on that this afternoon, so...hmmm, any requests, anyone? Beuhler?
Value for the month of October: "Thou Shall Not Covet"
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor" (Exodus 20:17).
I've often wondered why this one made it into the 10 commandments: it seems like such a small thing compared with murder, stealing or adultery. Big deal, right?
But now that I have children, I understand exactly why God put such a high priority on coveting. Imagine if your son or daughter said, "our next door neighbor has such a better house than we do. I wish I was part of that family instead." Ouch. That would hurt.
We do the same thing to God when we covet someone else's talent: we are saying to God "I wish you would have made me like them. I'm not happy with the talents you have given me."
God has created you with unique passions, abilities, talents, etc. When we stop focusing on someone else's gifts, and start refining our own, wonderful things can happen for God's kingdom. In what are you both passionate and talented? Where is God calling you right now?
God bless,
Phill
