2009 Vision: Serving the Community Through the Arts and Acts of Kindness
2009 is fast approaching! Remember why we are doing this: we'll play some good music in the community, serve them by filling a need and simply invite them to FCCN for a Sunday service. We won't "beat them over the head with the Bible," but we will show them kindness by going directly where they are. Jesus did the same thing! Please continue to pray about where God will use your talents in 2009!
Choir & Orchestra:
Thanks for doing such a great job last Sunday. I've gotten lots of compliments about you all, and I'd like to share two in particular:
Hi Phill,
Listen that was just a ROCKIN' service yesterday!! Not that the music's not always good, but heck, if I'd have known it was going to hit that whole new level yesterday, I would've gone to the 9:00 service too!

-Dave Mothershed
By the way, Dave will be playing "Herod" in the Christmas Musical, so you won't have the think of him as such a bad guy. :)
Hi Phill,
I didn't get to speak to you Sunday to tell you that the
music was beyond great!!! The choir sounds so-o-o
good and the orchestra has improved greatly this year.
Doreen Robertson
Doreen will be handling the costumes for the musical, so it's best for us for her to like us too. :)
This Sunday night we'll be working on "Do You Hear What I Hear?" & "My Soul Does Magnify." We'll do prayer groups first, then break into sectionals, then have the full group together for the remainder of the rehearsal.
Solos for Choir
Special thanks to all of you who tried out the solos for the musical! It was great to hear some new voices, some familiar voices, and also some who have improved much since the last time we heard you! Also, thanks to all the equippers who served as judges and selected the winners.
For each solo, we'll have a soloist and an understudy if the soloist gets sick: remember, it will be winter soon, so a cold or sore throat could happen easily!
"One King" Karen Hinman. Understudy: Elisa Morrison.
"My Soul Does Magnify" Denise Hutcheson. Understudy: Sandy Schooler.
"Do You Hear What I Hear" Soprano: Suzanne Chambliss, Alto: Paula Lemmer, Tenor: Doug Minor.
Understudy: Cynthia Mushrush.
"While You Were Sleeping" Bill Miller. Understudy: Phill Foust.
"Let the Worshippers Arise" Elisa Morrison & Ted Meece. Understudies: Serena Gelhausen & Jason Chambliss.
BTW, we (mostly I) forgot to have tryouts for the solo on "Sing Noel." (my fault! I skipped right over it). The solo is measures 29-36. I'd like to have tryouts for that song in 2 weeks: Sunday, Oct. 19 @ 5:45 in the dining room. I encourage everyone interested to tryout!
Value for the month of October: "Thou Shall Not Covet"
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor" (Exodus 20:17).
I'm particularly struggling with this one today: coveting my neighbor Bill's solo. :) But I must remember that we all have specific talents, and we must rejoice in the ones that God has given us, while also rejoicing that He gave different ones to others. That’s what helps the church accomplish its mission! I also trust the greater wisdom of the collective group. I think we all would agree that one person making all the decisions is dangerous, and I'm glad we have a plurality of leadership in the worship ministry: with mentors, equippers, and other various smart and generally handsome people. :)
God bless,
Phill
