Worship Ministry Update: 11/25/08

2009 Vision: Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

Choir, thanks for doing a spectacular job at the mall Sunday!  You all sounded great, and I had a blast directing you.  I know that so many people enjoyed hearing us, and it was great to be out in the community with all of you!

I wanted to send you a note of encouragement from our bus driver: :)

Hey, Worship Choir...

WOW...you guys sounded awesome on Sunday night.  Thanks for letting me drive the bus for you...it was a lot of fun.  I am so thankful that each one of you is using your gifts and talents to serve Jesus and glorify him!  Your time, energy and effort do not go unnoticed.  I am proud to be one of your pastors.  Have a great Thanksgiving!

Brad

Christmas Musical

    Schedule

We will NOT be practicing this Sunday night.  Next week's practice schedule is:

Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 6:00-7:30 (Choir, orchestra, media team, drama).

Friday, Dec. 5 from 6:00-7:30 (Choir, orchestra, media team, drama).

Remember that childcare is provided for every practice.

    Christmas Musical Invite cards

Invite cards for the Christmas musical are available at each welcome center.  This is our main source of advertisement, so please invite your unchurched friends, family, coworkers and neighbors to a wonderful Christmas experience during the weekend of December 13-14.

    Set Construction

Set construction has begun for the Christmas Musical!  They'll be working out in the bus garage this week.  Contact Mike McCool if you are interested in helping out. mmcool@standardextile.com

Value for the Month: Memorization

Once you have memorized something, maintenance is still important.  I went through the book of Jonah today while I was working out: because if you don't use it, you'll loose it.  So continue listening to your CD, even if you feel you are ready.

One last note of encouragement: choir, you had your music memorized by Nov. 23, and you deserve a big shout out!  I could tell you worked hard to memorize everything for Nov. 23.  I so appreciate you!

    God bless,

Worship Ministry Update: 11/18/08

2009 Vision: Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

The Choir will be singin at the mall this Sunday!  We'll meet first at FCCN for our regular practice at 6:00 (in the dining room).  Then we'll board the FCCN bus around 6:45.  We'll be singing in the food court of the mall from 7:45-8:15.  You all are welcome to shop until the bus leaves at 9:00 P.M.

You do not have to take the bus: you are welcome to carpool if you want.  But I'll be riding the bus since it would be a long walk for me with no vehicle. :)

Please remember the FCCN dress code for the evening. :)

We will be providing a ticket for everyone in the choir.  If you have any children with you, they will get in free!  But if you have any teenagers or adults, please purchase a $10 ticket at the welcome centers this Sunday morning or at the Sunday night practice.

Since we will be inside the mall in the cafe court, the orchestra will not be joining us.  (Fooey, I'd much rather have live music!)  We'll be using a CD instead.

We will also have some invite cards to the Christmas musical to hand out to people in the food court.

Remember why we are doing this: we'll sing some quality music, and then invite them to come and worship with us at FCCN.  Who knows how many people will eventually become Christians because we extended grace to them in the community.  In short, we'll be "serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness."

Experiential Worship,  this Saturday night!

Scott Lehman & Eric Rudisill would like to invite you all to a great night of worship!

Anyone and everyone in the church is invited to a time to gather and worship together this Saturday night, November 22, at 5 pm. We'll pack in the high school room upstairs by the gym. Bring a carry-in dish and some plates so we can all "break bread" together, and then we'll sing and have some high-energy (read: sorta loud) worship. Bring the kids along. You may even hear from a couple people in the body about what has been on their hearts as of late. Questions, or want to help? Email or call Eric Rudisill (550-5302) or Scott Lehman (402-0933).

 Orchestra  & Rhythm Section

Since you all will not be joining us at the mall, Fran has requested that you all practice one more time together.  For this Sunday night practice only, you will be practicing in the chapel since the drama will be in the worship center.

I look forward to playing music with you all in December!

Value for the Month: Memorization

One of the best tricks I've found in memorizing is to take it "piece by peice." Start with a small "gulp" at a time.  Don't try to memorize the entire chapter or even the entire verse at a time.  One phrase at a time will do.

When trying to memorize music from a CD, try the same thing: rewind the same part over and over again.  It sounds a little strange, but it works.

Worship Ministry Update: 11/12/08

2009 Vision: Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

The Choir will be singing at the mall Sunday night, Nov. 23 at 7:45 P.M.!  It is part of the "Simon Evening of Giving" sponsored by Deaconess Hospital and many other not-for-profit organizations.  It benefits the Simon Youth Foundation, which "helps at-risk kids in Simon mall communities nationwide earn high school diplomas and scholarships to realize hopes of going to college." (www.syf.org)

Since we will be inside the mall in the cafe court, the orchestra will not be joining us.  (Fooey, I'd much rather have live music!)  We'll be using a CD instead.

Melissa Epley is Moving this Saturday at 9:00 A.M.! (408 Locust St., Newburgh)

Speaking of acts of Kindness, Melissa Epley (who sings in the choir) is moving (locally) this weekend, and has asked the gentleman to help (and ladies if you want, I don't want to exclude you from the fun :)

We'll meet at her house at 9:00 A.M.   Bring your truck!  Her address is 408 Locust St. (close to downtown Newburgh).  You can "Google map" the address.

Ushers

Rick Williams would like to let you all know about a serving opportunity at FCCN:

For a while now the Deacons at FCC have been working to redefine their role within FCC while at the same time opening ministry opportunities for members of the church body.  With this in mind and with the approval of the Elders, a new volunteer position at FCC is being created for men and women at FCC.

We are calling the new position "Ushers" which is misleading since the volunteers will be responsible for the  majority of activities surrounding the Sunday Service in the Worship Center.  We are looking for 24-30 volunteers who would serve one service per month with four individuals serving each service. Scheduling can be flexible within reason.

The specific duties of the Ushers would include:
  • Unlocking and locking the worship center prior to and following services
  • Moving communion trays to and from kitchen prior to services and clean up following second service.
  • Supervising communion servers during service
  • Conducting attendance counts
  • Assisting individuals in the Worship Center
  • Assisting Deacons on duty as needed.
These duties are critical to the Sunday Service and therefore Ushers will need to be very dependable with a deep sense of responsibility.  Individuals volunteering will begin training by working under the supervision of the Deacons but ultimately will become largely self-supervising.

The other Deacons and I would appreciate it if you could let the people in your ministry know about this.  Again, this is an important new volunteer position at FCC for men and women who wish to step up to a higher level of serving within the church.  If you or any of your group members have a question, please feel free to contact me. rickwilliams@wowway.com or (812) 858-0333 ext. 2

 Choir & Orchestra

This Sunday night, we'll begin in the worship center.  We'll do prayer groups first, then the choir will go to the chapel to work on the music for the mall along with the CD.  The orchestra and rhythm section will stay in the worship center and practice their music.

Choir, since we have a half an hour to sing at the mall (7:45-8:15), we'll be singing the following songs:

How Can I Keep from Singing
Do You Hear What I Hear
        Sing Noel
        One King
        O Holy Night
My Soul Does Magnify the Lord

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Worship Ministry Update: 11/4/08

2009 Vision: Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

This Saturday, Louis Rose, James Geisler & I will be performing at the health fair this Saturday, November 8, here at FCCN.  We'll start around noon in the dining room.  There will be tons of people on our campus, and this will give them a chance to hear some music and hopefully want to come back on Sunday.  So come by, grab a bite to eat, and hear some acoustic groovin', harmony soothin', percussion boomin' muzak. :)

 Choir & Orchestra

Thanks for doing a great job again Sunday!  You all are such an encouragement to me.  Here's something that was sent to me from Suzy Dayvolt:

Phill,

Wow!!!  What more can one say after the singing on Sunday by the choir.  They sounded great!  The song was super!  I can't wait to see the Christmas cantata!

Susy

I hope to see you all this Sunday night @ 6:00!  We will have no more sectionals, so we'll be together as a full group for the entire practice time.  Here's the practice schedule:

6:00-6:05 Prayer and memorization pep talk!

6:05-6:45: practice the following songs as a full group:
"Do You Hear What I Hear"
        "Little Town"
       "Sing Noel"
"O Holy Night / O Come All Ye Faithful"

    6:45-7:05 Prayer Groups

    7:05-7:25     "One King"
"My Soul Does Magnify the Lord"

FWI: We will be singing all of these songs at the Eastland Mall on Sunday evening, Nov. 23, along with "How Can I Keep from Singing" & "Let the Worshippers Arise."

Costumes for the Christmas Musical

Doreen Robertson, our costume director, would like to give the following info to the men in the choir:

"I need old ball caps, something you don't expect to wear as it will not be returned: you may put your name in them if you wish."  Doreen will need the hats to make headdresses for the musical.  You can give them to me or Doreen on Sunday.

Value of the Month: Memorization

I've heard it a million times: "I can't memorize."  Hmmm.  May I ask a question: what's your favorite movie?  May I ask one more question: can you quote a few lines?  I'll be you can quote more than a few lines, and here's why: you've seen it many times.

That is the first key to memorization: repetition.  Listening to your CD, repeating the lines, reading the Bible: hearing the same thing over and over will help you memorize it.  To be honest, that's how I memorized Jonah: I played the CD over and over while I exercised.  It wasn't really difficult, it just took time.  I invite you to try it for a week: you'll be quoting before you know it. :)
