Worship Ministry Update: 11/12/08

2009 Vision: Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

The Choir will be singing at the mall Sunday night, Nov. 23 at 7:45 P.M.!  It is part of the "Simon Evening of Giving" sponsored by Deaconess Hospital and many other not-for-profit organizations.  It benefits the Simon Youth Foundation, which "helps at-risk kids in Simon mall communities nationwide earn high school diplomas and scholarships to realize hopes of going to college." (www.syf.org)

Since we will be inside the mall in the cafe court, the orchestra will not be joining us.  (Fooey, I'd much rather have live music!)  We'll be using a CD instead.

Remember why we are doing this: we'll sing some quality music, and then invite them to come and worship with us at FCCN.  Who knows how many people will eventually become Christians because we extended grace to them in the community.  In short, we'll be "serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness."

Melissa Epley is Moving this Saturday at 9:00 A.M.! (408 Locust St., Newburgh)

Speaking of acts of Kindness, Melissa Epley (who sings in the choir) is moving (locally) this weekend, and has asked the gentleman to help (and ladies if you want, I don't want to exclude you from the fun :)

We'll meet at her house at 9:00 A.M.   Bring your truck!  Her address is 408 Locust St. (close to downtown Newburgh).  You can "Google map" the address.

Experiential Worship, November 22
Scott Lehman & Eric Rudisill would like to invite you all to a great night of worship!

Anyone and everyone in the church is invited to a time to gather and worship together this Saturday night, November 22, at 5 pm. We'll pack in the high school room upstairs by the gym. Bring a carry-in dish and some plates so we can all "break bread" together, and then we'll sing and have some high-energy (read: sorta loud) worship. Bring the kids along. You may even hear from a couple people in the body about what has been on their hearts as of late. Questions, or want to help? Email or call Eric Rudisill (550-5302) or Scott Lehman (402-0933).
Ushers

Rick Williams would like to let you all know about a serving opportunity at FCCN:

For a while now the Deacons at FCC have been working to redefine their role within FCC while at the same time opening ministry opportunities for members of the church body.  With this in mind and with the approval of the Elders, a new volunteer position at FCC is being created for men and women at FCC.

We are calling the new position "Ushers" which is misleading since the volunteers will be responsible for the  majority of activities surrounding the Sunday Service in the Worship Center.  We are looking for 24-30 volunteers who would serve one service per month with four individuals serving each service. Scheduling can be flexible within reason.

The specific duties of the Ushers would include:
  • Unlocking and locking the worship center prior to and following services
  • Moving communion trays to and from kitchen prior to services and clean up following second service.
  • Supervising communion servers during service
  • Conducting attendance counts
  • Assisting individuals in the Worship Center
  • Assisting Deacons on duty as needed.
These duties are critical to the Sunday Service and therefore Ushers will need to be very dependable with a deep sense of responsibility.  Individuals volunteering will begin training by working under the supervision of the Deacons but ultimately will become largely self-supervising.

The other Deacons and I would appreciate it if you could let the people in your ministry know about this.  Again, this is an important new volunteer position at FCC for men and women who wish to step up to a higher level of serving within the church.  If you or any of your group members have a question, please feel free to contact me. rickwilliams@wowway.com or (812) 858-0333 ext. 2

 Choir & Orchestra

This Sunday night, we'll begin in the worship center.  We'll do prayer groups first, then the choir will go to the chapel to work on the music for the mall along with the CD.  The orchestra and rhythm section will stay in the worship center and practice their music.

Choir, since we have a half an hour to sing at the mall (7:45-8:15), we'll be singing the following songs:

How Can I Keep from Singing
Do You Hear What I Hear
        Sing Noel
        One King
        O Holy Night
My Soul Does Magnify the Lord

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend!
