Worship Ministry Update: 1/29/08

Snow Snow Snow!

I hope you all are keeping warm!  We don't have power at the Foust house, but we have a Karosene heater that keeps our house at around 65 degrees (We also have it well ventelated and a carbon monoxide detector, in case you wondered).  Come on over if you get cold! 5063 E. Sherwood Dr. in Newburgh.

We WILL be having church on Sunday despite the weather, so I hope to see you then!  We have power here at the church building, I can look out side my window and see them plowing the parkinglot right now!  So I look forward to worshipping with you all on Sunday!

Choir & Orchestra

I can't wait for this Sunday when we lead worship together!  Please remember to observe the dress code, park in the back of the parkinglot, drop off any kiddos with Jennifer in the nursery and be in the worship center by 7:00 A.M.!  Remember that we will not be practicing Sunday evening.  You're all welcome to come over to my house and watch the big game.  I'm hoping the Foust fam will have power by Sunday night?  Maybe...

Solo Tryouts

Thanks to everyone who tried out for a solo!  It was great to hear so many voices at the tryout!  Here are the soloists chosen by the vocal equippers:

        "All Because of Jesus"
              Male Soloist: Bill Miller
              Male Understudy: Adam Schaffer
              Female Solo: Mary Lehman
              Famale Understudy: Suzanne Chambliss

        "Your Grace is Enough"
              Soloist: Bob Walters
              Understudy: Russ Berkau

        "God of this City"
            Soloist: J.R. Holesinger
            Understudy: Samantha Keller

        "Hear our Praises"
            Soloist: Suzanne Chambliss
            Understudy: Barb Cash

Remember that the understudy needs to have the solo memorized and be ready to sing it if the soloist gets sick or is unable to sing!  That happens more often than you might think. :)

Two Kingdoms Christmas Musical DVD's

If you would like a copy of the DVD for the Christmas Musical, you may sign up for one at the welcome center this Sunday, or request a copy directly by emailing our media director, Guy Hall ghall@fccn.org.  The DVD will include special features, including outtakes! :)

 Value for the Month: "Integrity

I have seen some of the best examples of integrity in my neighborhood during this snow and ice storm.  People helping their neighbors out, shoveling their trucks out of a tight spot, and just helping each other out.  It's amazing how an emergency like this will help remind us all of what's important!

This passage probably has direct meaning for us today:  "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:20-21).  God calls us to live a life of integrity, even in a snow storm.

God bless, and stay warm out there,

Worship Ministry Update: 1/20/08

2009 Vision:  Serving the Community through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

Thanks for all the support for this vision!  You all have really latched onto this I can feel your excitement and encouragement!  We'll be playing some music at events like the Fall Festival, Starbucks, the Right to Life Banquet, the Buddy walk, and then inviting them to come to worship at FCCN.  Remember, it is our responsibility to bring what we have to Jesus.  It is GOD's responsibility to provide the miracle (Matthew 15:34-37).

 Choir & Orchestra

We'll be getting back together this Sunday night at 6:00!  We'll be running through the special song and worship songs for when we lead worship on February 1.  Please stop by the welcome center if you have not gotten your music packets for February 1.

At 5:00 P.M., we'll have vocal solo tryouts in the dining room for the following songs:

"All Because of Jesus" (verse 1: male solo, verse 2, female solo)
"Your Grace is Enough" (Verse 1 & 2: male or female solo)
"God of this City" (Verse: male or female solo)
"Hear our Praises" (Verse 2: male or female solo)

I encourage you to try out, especially you new people: it's one of the main ways I find new talent for the worship teams and for solos on Sunday morning.

Also at 5:00 P.M., we'll be setting the stage for when the choir and orchestra leads worship, so if you don't feel lead to tryout for a solo, we could use your muscles on stage. :)

As I was picking through the music this week, I noticed I neglected to put the track numbers on the music for Feb. 1.  So here they are:

“Your Grace is Enough” (CD 1, alto 7, tenor 12, bass 17)

CD is 2 whole steps higher than the written music

“How Can I Keep from Singing” (CD 2, alto 8, tenor 13, bass 18)

“Forever” (CD 3, alto 9, tenor 14)

“Give us Clean Hands” (CD 4, alto 10, tenor 15, bass 19)

CD is 3 half steps higher than the written music

“All the Way my Savior Leads me” (CD 5)

“You, You are God” (CD 6, alto 11, tenor 16)

Two Kingdoms Christmas Musical DVD's

If you would like a copy of the DVD for the Christmas Musical, you may sign up for one at the welcome center this Sunday, or request a copy directly by emailing our media director, Guy Hall ghall@fccn.org.  The DVD will include special features, including outtakes! :)

 Value for the Month: "Integrity

We define integrity as doing the right thing, even when it's difficult.

I'm especially excited about singing "Give us Clean Hands" on February 1: "Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts, let us not lift our soul to another.  Oh God let us be a generation that seeks Your face, oh God of Jacob."

When it comes down to it, it's all about who you really worship: the One true God, or the billions of other things that can distract us in this life.  Integrity matters: as we've seen during this decade with the financial crisis and numerous other scandals.  My friends, Let's be a generation that seeks His face.

Worship Ministry Update: 1/14/08

Vision Night:  This Sunday night, January 18  in the chapel at 6:00 P.M.!

I am ecstatic about this!  I hope to see EVERYONE in the worship ministry at this event!  Believe me, you will not want to miss it.  It will be a multi-sensory experience, with experiential worship, videos, music, testimonies and a whole lotta soul. :)  We'll be sharing the details of the vision for 2009: serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness.  We'll see you at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel: childcare is provided.  All you need to bring is 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish.

 Choir & Orchestra

Thanks to everyone who came out for our first night of practice, we had a great turn out!  BUT we can always use some more people, so come on out and use your musical talents for Jesus!

The choir and orchestra will meet again on Sunday night January 25 at 6:00 P.M.  We'll be running through the special song and worship songs for when we lead worship on February 1.  Choir and orchestra, please stop by the welcome center this Sunday night to pick up your packets for February 1.

However, at 5:00 P.M., we'll have vocal solo tryouts in the dining room for the following songs:

 Value for the Month: "Integrity

We define integrity as doing the right thing, even when it's difficult.   A good example of that was when you all stayed for the extremely LONG taping of the Christmas musical during that frightful Friday night in December: it was a long night, and everyone was tired, but you all stuck through it and God was glorified because of it.  In fact, we have new people attending FCCN now because of your efforts.  Thanks for doing your ministry with integrity!  God bless all of you!

Worship Ministry Update: 1/5/08

Vision Night: Sunday night, January 18

Everyone in the worship ministry is invited to the chapel for a multi-sensory experience! (during the regular choir and orchestra practice).  We'll be sharing the details of the vision for 2009: serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness.  My prayer is that %100 of the worship ministry will be there!   All you need to bring is 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish.

Also invited is anyone who might be interested in the worship ministry.  You may be just sitting in the pew and might want to get involved in some way.  You are invited to join us on this night!

Choir & Orchestra for the new year: begins Sunday Night, January 11!

Tom Dean and I have finally finished all the arrangements for the choir and orchestra.  Thanks Tom, for all your hard work!

I'm inviting everyone (8th grade and older) to come out and join us!  We'll be doing some modern worship music, along with Easter Sunday and performing for the "Right to Life Banquet" on April 16!  No tryout is needed and childcare is provided for every practice.

Praise Team Schedule is in your box!

Praise team, please check your box for the schedule.  It has the dates for when you serve from now until the end of March.  Special thanks to Brenda Esparza for putting the schedule together for us!

 Value for the Month: "Integrity

We define integrity as doing the right thing, even when it's difficult.

For example: It's getting out of bed before the sun comes up, walking across the frozen tundra of Newburgh and exercise here at the church gym before office hours.  Hmmm, we'll see if I do the same thing tomorrow....

The Bible is full of examples of integrity.  Colossians was part of my devotions this morning, and it says to "continue to live with Him" (2:6).  Other versions say "to walk with him." That may be the best test of integrity: would I be doing this if Jesus was "living with me" or "walking with me?"

By the way, if Jesus was here as a man in 2009, Jesus would probably get out of bed early tomorrow and go exercise. :)

   God bless,
