Worship Ministry Update: 2/26/09

Worship Ministry Shirts

Anyone in the worship ministry is welcome to order a worship ministry polo shirt!  Everyone in the choir and orchestra will need one for the right to life banquet, but all worship ministry participants, including media team, drama, sign choir, praise band, creative materials, etc., are welcome to order a shirt.  See the shirt committee's note below:

We are ready to start ordering our new Worship Ministry shirts.  The shirts will be Carolina Blue (Sorry, Doug, not “Kentucky” blue!) Hanes Polo shirts with a darker blue FCCN logo and the copy, “First Christian, Newburgh Worship Ministry” on the left-hand side.  Prices are as follows:  S-XL - $10.55; 2XL - $14.00; 3XL - $14.95.  We will have sample sizes for you to try on before ordering, so you’ll get the correct size.  (Remember the dress code!)

We hope to start the ordering process this coming Sunday evening, before and after choir rehearsal.  We will also have some times scheduled on Sunday mornings for you to place your order.  Please try to pay for your shirts when you order them.  Checks will need to be written to “First Christian Church”.  If you cannot pay at that time, just make arrangements with one of the people taking the order.  If you would like to “sponsor” a shirt for someone or need to be “sponsored”, contact Cheryl Smith at pesmith1963@sbcglobal.net or cheryl.smith@evsc.k12.in.us.

Choir & Orchestra

We had 2 more volunteers for the last practice, but we're still looking for more!  We'll need lots of voices and instrumentalists to fill the Centre when we sing for the Right to life Banquet in April!  Come on out and join us Sunday evening.  We practice every Sunday night from 6:00-7:30 P.M., and childcare is provided for every practice.

Remember that we are leading worship this Sunday morning!  Remember to observe the dress code, park in the back of the parking lot, drop off any kiddos with Jennifer in the Nursery and be in the worship center by 7:00 A.M.!

On Sunday night March 1, we'll be working on "All Because of Jesus" & "God of This City."  Here's what the evening will look like:

6:00-6:10 Opening prayer and reflections on the morning worship!

        6:10-6:25 sectional practice

6:25-6:50 Choir practices in chapel, orchestra continues to practice on stage

6:50-7:10 Choir and orchestra practices together in the worship center

        7:10-7:30 Prayer groups

Concerning "If you are an American," please let me know if you would like to sing that solo.  If I have more than 3 people who would like to sing it, than we'll have an audition for it.  But if only a few are interested, I'll just pick somebody.  And no, I'm NOT going to sing it, even though you all suggested it Sunday night. :)

Worship DVD's

I haven't gotten any DVD's yet!  If anyone has any laying around their house, please let me know.  Specifically, worship concerts from people like Chris Tomlin, Lincoln Brewster, Hillsongs, stuff like that.  Don't just go out and buy one, but if you have one laying around your house, let me borrow it please.

Value for the month: "Be on time

Alright!  We've come a long way in this area!  I selected February as the month for the "be on time" value because it's the shortest month. I only had to talk about it for 28 days. :)  So in the future, I'll just talk to you individually if lateness becomes an issue again.  Thanks for rising to the challenge with this value!

    God bless,

  Two Kingdoms Christmas Musical DVD's

If you would like a copy of the DVD for the Christmas Musical, you may sign up for one at the welcome center this Sunday, or request a copy directly by emailing our media director, Guy Hall ghall@fccn.org.  The DVD will include special features, including outtakes! :)

Value for the month: "Be on time

I'm sure we've all been part of organizations in the past who do not begin their meetings on time.  Then people begin to show up later and later, because they tell themselves "we never start on time anyway."  It becomes a vicious circle, and eventually that organization does not live up to it's full potential.  I'm sure we've all seen that happen.

Being on time is a concious choice.  Those of us with small children have to choose to get ready to leave much earlier than expected, and it's up to us to make it happen.  It would be easy for me to blame my little ones for me not being on time, but I refuse to do that.  Jennifer and I just make sure we're getting ready with enough time even if we can't find shoes/keys/juice/sunglasses/coat or whatever. :)

It's a commitment I have made to you all to begin on time, and I know you all appreciate that.  I appreciate you all too!

    God bless,

Worship Ministry Update: 2/2/09

2009 Vision: Impacting our community through the arts and acts of kindness

One of the main themes around FCCN this year will be "impacting others."  I'm excited about that, because it goes right along with the plans for the worship ministry this year!  Remember why we are doing this: we'll be performing some good music in the community, and then inviting them to come and worship here at FCCN.  Our prayer is that they will eventually become fully devoted followers to Jesus!

 Choir & Orchestra

Come on out and join the choir and orchestra!  We're looking for more volunteers to serve!  We practice every Sunday night from 6:00-7:30 P.M., and childcare is provided for every practice.

6:35-6:55 full choir practices in the chapel, orchestra & rhythm section continues to practice on stage

        6:55-7:15 Prayer groups

7:15-7:30: Everyone in the worship center to practice "Hear our Praises" & "All Because of Jesus" together

Value for the month: "Be on time

Showing up on time tells everyone that you respect them and value them.  It's a simple courtesy that goes a long way.  Consider what Rory Noland says in his book Thriving as an Artist:

“I have found tardiness to be the most common example of irresponsibility among artists.  It may not bother you if you’re habitually late, but it is inconsiderate of others.  It sends a subtle message that other people’s time is not as important as your personal schedule.  It also communicates that what they’re doing is not worth you being on time.  It’s not okay to keep people waiting for you.  It’s a basic human courtesy to show up when you say you will.  ‘Let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no,’ ‘no.’ (Matt. 5:37).  If you want to be taken seriously as a leader or as an artist, be a men or woman of your word.  No matter how talented you are, it eventually wears thin if your lake of punctuality becomes a habit” (54).

As you know, I strive very hard to begin and end practices on time, because I respect you and your time!  We're all busy people.  How much have you already done today? :)

    God bless,
