Worship Ministry Update: May 30

This is the weekly worship ministry blog!  If you would rather not receive this, just reply to me and let me know!  I'll take you off the list if I'm a bother to you. :)

Praise Team Schedule

Yes, it's that time again!  Please send me your dates that you can serve on the praise team for July 5 through August 30.  We'll put the schedule together based on your needs.

Your schedules are due to me on Monday, June 8.  You can either email, phone, fax, telegraph, or smoke signal. :)

Christmas Musical

Jake Miller, Guy Hall and I will begin planning the Christmas Musical next week.  (I know, in May?  Really????)  So if you have any creative ideas that you would like to share with us, just email us (pfoust@fccn.org or ghall@fccn.org or jmiller@fccn.org) or talk to us on Sunday.

We'll definitely be doing the Casting Crowns song "I heard the Bells on Christmas Day" Check it out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7670CXvPX0

Babies.  Yeah.  They're awesome.  Jennifer said she's starting to have some contractions, so Alyssa may be here sooner than June 9.  I really plan to savor this whole experience: going to the hospital, the delivery, holding her for the first time, all of that.  It will probably be more enjoyable for me than for Jennifer. :)  I wonder how Nathan and Luke will react...

    God bless,

No picnic tonight. :(

    Argh!

I still appreciate all of you, but we're canceling because of the rain.  We will schedule another one for August.  Hopefully it will not rain then!

Maybe Scott Lehman is praying for rain..."the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (James 5:16)

FW: Worship Ministry update: 5/18/09

You're Invited!  All Worship Ministry Appreciation picnic!  THIS Sunday night, May 24 @ 6:00 P.M.!

Let's pray for no rain this time! :)  I want to say THANK YOU to ALL worship ministry participants: drama, sign choir, media team, set builders, creative material people, praise team, praise band, choir and orchestra, including their families!  Let's get together and have some fun!  We'll be getting together at our house! 5063 E. Sherwood Dr. in Newburgh.

I realize that since it will be Memorial day weekend, not everyone will be able to attend (our back yard would not fit everyone now anyway.  Remember when we did this in my back yard 3 years ago?  It was PACKED OUT!  Crazy fun.  I'll never forget it.)  So we'll have another appreciation event in late August before everything gets going again in September.  Why not?  One of my good friends in High School used to say that "any reason to have a party is a good reason!"

Directions:  Head south on 261 past the FCCN campus. After passing a shopping plaza on your left, and you will see the "Golden Buddha restaurant," then turn left on Robin Hill.  Robin Hill will dead end at W. Sherwood Drive. We are around the block on E. Sherwood Drive. We have a 2 story brick house with a green door and a large oak tree and boulder out front: 5063 E. Sherwood Drive.

What to bring: a side dish (preferably) or a dessert, and some lawn chairs!

I look forward to being with you all and saying thank you for all your hard work!

Concerning the vollyball challenge that has devolped a cult following: I WILL set up the volleyball net in our back yard.  But I'm not sure if Scott Lehman will be there.  Do you think he'll chicken out?  So IF he does not show up, I'll take EVERYBODY on! :)

This picknic will also give everyone a chance to meet our new worship ministry intern:

Jake Miller: Worship Ministry Intern!

Sunday is Jake Miller's first day with us!  He'll be singing the special music that day.  Jake is going to graduate from KCU after his internship here.  He is a very talented piano player, vocalist and sax player.  He's also 6'4", so I'm no longer the tallest person on the FCCN staff :).  Jake will be assisting Guy Hall and myself on staff with the worship ministry leadership for the rest of 2009. He'll even be able to help with the 2009 Christmas musical, so man oh man, I'm so glad he'll be here!  He'll also be at the appreciation picnic so you can introduce yourself to him there, or on Sunday morning, or both! :)

Value of the Month: Relational Evangelism

During vacation last week, the Foust family did go to Cincinnati for a day to help Jonathan and Hannah Weir.  They are FCCN supported missionaries that are serving in inner city Cincinnati.  The coolest thing that I observed was their emphasis on relationships.  They spend the majority of their time just making friends and being with people.  How awesome!  Jesus did the same thing.  It struck me again how important relationships are to seeing lost people saved.

Remember, the best way to "see lost people saved" is to be their friend first.  They'll see your lifestyle of integrity, they'll notice the Holy Spirit at work in you, and especially see how much you care.

Attached is a picture of my oldest son Nathan in the inner city.  He pointed to the sign and the whole moment really hit me hard: here we all are, in the inner city, probably one of the roughest sections in all of Ohio, and Nathan has the biggest smile on his face.  It's almost like he's saying, "what's the big deal?  I'm with my daddy.  It'll be alright."  I need to be reminded of that too. "Do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matt. 6:31-34).

I hope to see you all Sunday morning and Sunday night!  God bless,

Worship Ministry update: 5/4/09

541 Concert (The Guys)

Thanks to everyone who helped with or attended the concert!  We had over 400 people there, so we quickly outgrew the chapel.  It was an experience I will never forget.  In fact, I am constantly amazed at how God chooses to bless the FCCN worship ministry beyond my expectations.  I was thinking we might have 100 or so people in the chapel.  To my surprise, and glory to God, the people just kept on coming in for the concert.  My brain is just too small to comprehend the power of God.  The people responded well and I thought everyone did a great job.  I enjoyed it, even though we did a lot of country music.  Thanks again everyone!

541 will begin singing in the community, which is all part of our 2009 vision: serving the community through the arts and acts of kindness.  It's a simple idea: we'll perform some quality music and the invite them to a worship service at FCCN.  Hopefully we'll see the unchurched become fully devoted followers of Jesus!

2009 Vision: Impacting the Community Through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

Two events coming up this month!  Here's the skinny:

WORSHIP NIGHT : This Saturday Night!

EVERYONE young and old is invited to come make a joyful noise at our next Worship Night, on Saturday evening, May 9. We often get asked, "So when are you going to do another one of those worship nights?" It's coming up quick, so write it on your calendar now! Join us for some high-energy singing and "interactive" worship, in a more intimate setting, with your hometown XP Band. Whether you are 15, 35, or 65, you'll want to be a part of it. Saturday, May 9, at 6 pm, upstairs in the high school room. As always, we're encouraging kids to worship with their parents, but even if your children might be too young for that, bring 'em out! We'll have child care as well.

Chicken and Music (Saturday, May 16)

What more could you want? The FCCN Worship Ministry Small Group will be performing at the Chick-fil- a  at Crosspoint in Evansville. The Family Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th at 3:00 pm. The festivities will start that morning and continue into the early afternoon. There will also be a story telling group, a magician, and a dance group. So go ahead and gather up the family and come enjoy some Chicken and Music!

The best way to "see lost people saved" is to be their friend first.  They'll see your lifestyle of integrity, they'll notice the Holy Spirit at work in you, and especially see how much you care.

When I was in high school (we're talking ancient history here: late 90's), I got to personally baptize 5 of my closest friends.  I remember lots of late night conversations about some pretty deep theological stuff: some questions I couldn't answer.  But being a genuine friend was the most important thing.  They eventually they came around (one young lady took 3 years!), and it was one of the greatest thrills of my life to see them become saved.

Because of the 2009 vision, you'll have some pretty cool events to invite your unchurched friends.  They may not be ready to attend a worship service yet, but a 541 concert or a family fun day?  That may be a Heaven sent opportunity...

Vacation? WHO Needs a Vacation?

Random blog thought: (I'll never forget serving at a previous church (which will remain nameless).  In a staff meeting, I mentioned that I was taking a week of vacation, and the senior minister looked at me incredulously and said: "VACATION??????"  Undeterred, I still took the week of vacation anyway.)

SO, I WILL be on vacation next week.  So have a happy Mother's day...I'll probably blog again on May 18.  No Cancun trip for the Foust family, BTW.  We're really not going much of anywhere.  Why not stick around Evansville during the 2nd week of May?  It'll be 72 degrees all week!  I'll think of you all, stuck in your offices, while I'm in our backyard, sipping lemonade, no shoes, no problemo.

Louis, can I borrow your xbox 360 next week?
