FCCN Worship Ministry Blog: August 10

Praise Team Schedule Due Tomorrow! (Tuesday, August 11)

Please send me your praise team schedules for September through the end of December, including the Christmas Eve service (December 24). Please also let me know how often you would like to play/sing.  Once a month, twice a month, more or less than that?  Please let me know how God is leading you.  I'm up there every Sunday, but I'm sure most of you would rather not do that. :)

Mow and Go (Saturday morning, Aug. 22)

Let us know some addresses of some people who are unchurched that might be blessed by this!  We have 3 addresses so far, and I'm looking for more.

Also, please let me know if you would like to help!  Here are a few ways to be involved:

       1) Bring your lawnmower and weed whacker and make it happen.

        2) help with childcare at FCCN while others, you know, mow.

        3) Administratively gifted people who want to tackle the scheduling.

        4) Prayer warriors: We'll set up a room at FCCN for some people to pray for soft hearts and safety for all involved that morning.

Value of the Month: "I'm a 10"

1 Corinthians 12:18-20:  18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

Remember, your best role is where you are both talented AND passionate.

Eric Rudisill suggested something really cool this week.  I'd like to share it with you.  He says:

The discussion of talents/passions/gifts is always a good one.  For the organization, it makes sense - pick a direction and go headlong into it.  Clear example of the microeconomic principles of Specialization and Segregation of Duties to provide maximal output for least cost.  Where I find a danger is in the limiting effect that single-focused philosophies tend to have on people...   So while encouraging people to focus on one thing is advantageous from a management perspective (it certainly makes things easier on an org chart!), it can stifle creative pursuit and mask hidden potential in an individual...  So, I'm all for encouraging people to "play skillfully" and concentrate on a particular skill/talent/passion, but I think we also need to be very conscious of the need for humans to explore new opportunities and continue to learn in life.

I think a good example of this is our very own Doug Minor.  He is a very talented equipper and tenor.  But this year he has also learned to play the bass, and he does a great job with that too!  Bass guitar is another area where he is both talented and passionate.  He chose to try something new to become a better artist.  I'll all for that!

Next week I'll blog about: "what if someone is in a role in which they think they are talented, but they really are not?"  I'll also blog about: "what if I'm a 10 in talent but only a 3 in passion?"  Oh, I know, I'm getting really personal here.  Stay tuned...
