FCCN Worship Ministry Blog: August 4

Praise Team Schedule (due Tuesday, August 11)

Please send me your praise team schedules for September through the end of December, including the Christmas eve service (December 24). Please also let me know how often you would like to play/sing.  Once a month, twice a month, more or less than that?  Please let me know how God is leading you.  I'm up there every Sunday, but I'm sure most of you would rather not do that. :)

2009 Vision: Impacting the Community Through the Arts and Acts of Kindness

Mow and Go (Saturday morning, Aug. 22)

We've had some interest with people who want to help with this!  I'm looking forward to the opportunity.  We do need some addresses though: people who do not currently have a church home, and wouldn't mind for someone to mow their lawn. (I know that some guys are crazy about their lawns: very meticulous.  So if they are "one of those guys" we won't bother them.)

Please let me know if you would like to help!  Here are a few ways to be involved:

       1) Bring your lawnmower and weed whacker and make it happen.

        2) help with childcare at FCCN while others, you know, mow.

        3) Administratively gifted people who want to tackle the scheduling.

        4) Prayer warriors: We'll set up a room at FCCN for some people to pray for soft hearts and safety for all involved that morning.

Worship Night: This Sunday night, August 9 at 6:00 P.M.

You and your family are invited to eXPerience God in a concert of worship this Sunday night, August 9, at 6 PM. All are invited -- that's everyone, the whole church, your friends and neighbors, whether you are 15, 35, or 75! There will be some great music and interactive worship with the XP Band. We'll tie the evening in with the "What-If" project, and Adam Colter will have a few words to say. Mark your calendars now! Contact Scott Lehman or Eric Rudisill if you have any questions.

Value of the Month: "I'm a 10"

1 Corinthians 12:14-20:  Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

This month, I'd like us to do some self examination on where we are serving.  Your best role is where you are both talented AND passionate.

For me, I'm neither talented or passionate about cooking, so I don't do it. :)  It's a bad idea, and my children would agree.  On the other hand, playing piano is something that I am both talented and passionate.  So I try to do that as much as possible.

You may ask, so what about if you're very talented but not passionate, or very passionate but not talented?  My opinion: I wouldn't do those things either! There's a word for something you're passionate about but not talented: they are called "hobbies."  The words for talented but not passionate? "diaper change" :)

Seriously, here's the deal: the worship ministry continues to grow pretty quickly.  We have talented new people trying out for our team almost every week.  What a blessing from God!  So we can be more specialized in what we do, because more and more talent is coming in.  Do you want to focus solely on playing drums?  If you are talented and passionate in it, then focus on becoming a better drummer!  If you have no passion for keyboard?  Try something in which you are talented and passionate.  In short, focus on the area you can bring the most value.

I realize this is all pretty controversial, so I look forward to your comments.  Feel free to disagree!  I enjoy the debate.
