Choir & Orchestra Practice This Sunday night!

 

        Come on out and join us!  It's not too late!  We practice from 6:00-7:30 and childcare is provided for every practice.

 

    Here's what practice will look like this Sunday:

 

        6:00-6:10: Opening prayer and value of the month

 

        6:10-6:30: prayer groups

 

        6:30-6:55 sectionals ("God Speaking" & "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day")

 

        6:55-7:15 Choir in the chapel, orchestra stays on stage

 

        7:15-7:30 Full group in the worship center

 

    Here's what we will practice for the next few weeks:

 

        October 11: "God Speaking" & "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"

 

        October 18: "How Great our Joy" & "O Come O Come Emanuel"

 

        October 25: Practice with Media team for when we lead worship on Nov. 1

 

        November 1: "Christmas Makes me Cry" & "Christmas Time"

 

        November 8: "Coming Back to Life"

eXPeriential Worship: October 24


    Worship, Community, Music, and Love! Invite your friends and family to come out for a night of interactive high-energy praise and worship on Saturday, October 24, at 6 pm. All are invited, whether you are 15, 35, or 75. The XP Band will lead a lengthy time of worship and we'll talk a bit about some martyrs that have died following Jesus. Families are encouraged to worship together, but there will also be childcare provided.          

 

Value of the Month: " Thou Shall Not Covet"

 

    Exodus 20:17: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

 

    It's quite a paradox: we're constantly reaching for the next goal (finishing school, paying off the house, completing the big project at work, sending kids through college, getting ready for retirement, etc.) and yet we are also commanded not to covet ANYTHING that belongs to someone else.  So what's the intent of God's law here?

 

    Consider what Paul says in Philippians 4:11: "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."  The key is contentment with what God has blessed you.  But also consider what Paul stated in the chapter before: "Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13).

 

    The theme for Paul seemed to be contentment with earthly things, but constantly reaching for heavenly things: the stuff that really matters!  My wife Jennifer and I constantly remind each other about the 100 years principle: will it matter in 100 years?  If it will matter in 100 years, than we should be keep it as a number one priority.  Will it be dust in 100 years?  Then don't sweat it.  So, your relationship with Jesus, how you raise your kids, the person you helped lead to Jesus, ALL of that will matter greatly in 100 years.  The color of your car, your house, your hair, or whether or not you had hair: it won't matter! So don't covet it, especially if it's not yours anyway. :)
