FCCN Worship Ministry Blog: January 19

Choir and Orchestra Practice this Sunday Night!

We’ll set the stage at 5:00 P.M. in the worship center.  We won’t be moving the orchestra pit, but we will set up the choir risers and move the drums and percussion.

At 5:15, we’ll have solo tryouts in the chapel for the choir songs this spring:

                   “Our God Saves” (measures 4-21)

“From The Inside Out” (measures 4-32)

“Hosanna” (measures 8-20, 31-41) Alex Wilkison has already sung this song, so she is the soloist.  But we will need an understudy.

“There Will be a Day” (entire song) J.R. has already sung this song, so he is the soloist.  But we will need an understudy and a lady to sing the harmony part like the CD.

We’ll start choir practice at 6:00

6:00-6:10 Opening prayer and value of the month

6:10-6:45 practice the music for January 31

6:45-7:05 1st-5th grade choir practice in the chapel, prayer groups in the worship center

7:05-7:30 practice the music for January 31

Since the infamous “2nd sheet” was missing on the music Sunday, here’s the info:

“A New Hallelujah”  (CD 1, soprano 6, alto 9, tenor 13, bass 15)

Vocalists: Melody and harmony as written.  Notice the sopranos are singing harmony.  Have fun with that! J

Band: Your entrances are marked in the music.

“Filled with Your Glory” (CD 2, alto 10, tenor 15)

Vocalists: melody and harmony as written.  The basses and sopranos sing the melody the entire time.

Band: Let’s start with everyone (Joel lead electric, Louis rhythm elec, Karla plays written keys part on a separate sheet).

I’d like to repeat those 1st 4 measures until everyone’s finished greeting.

Measure 5 (every time): percussion, rhythm electric drops out, Joel plays high end lead elec.

 like CD

Measure 29: add rhythm elec. and percussion, Joel continues on high end lead

“New Doxology” (CD 3, soprano 7, alto 11, bass 17)

A New Hallelujah, New Doxology,  a new year and a new decade!  Who wants a new car too?

Vocalists: Melody and harmony as written.  Notice that the sopranos, altos and basses sing harmony on the chorus.  The tenors have the melody throughout.

Band: Your entrances are marked in the music.

“From the Inside Out” (CD 4, soprano 8, alto 12, bass 16)

This song is in your choir 2010 spring packet.

“God of this City” (CD 5, soprano 9, alto 13, bass 17)

Vocalists: We’ll sing melody the entire time, sopranos, altos and basses sing one octave lower on each chorus.

Band: Your entrances are marked in the music.  Karla, your keyboard part is on a separate sheet.

Value of the Month: “Integrity”

We define integrity as “doing the right thing, even when it’s difficult.”

Integrity: it matters.  Even in 2010.  After the previous decade: (Sept. 11, Enron, Wallstreet/mortgage meltdown, New England Patriots, just to name a few), “doing the right thing, even when it’s difficult” is the way to go.  An organization or individual might get away with cheating and cooking the books for a while, but eventually it catches up with you.  Consider Galatians 6:7-8:

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.  A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his flesh, from that flesh will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

I have that verse on my computer monitor right now.  It’s been there for years.  Notice not only a warning, but a wonderful blessing: “from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

We have a wonderful blessing and reward from God when we do it His way!

Random Blog Thought

Colts are in the AFC championship game for the 1st time since 2006.  God has blessed us with an afternoon game so we’ll have everybody at practice Sunday night.  That was not the case in 2006. J
